When you are on an x64 machine and attempt to access the setup.exe file in a SAS 9.3 depot that contains a subsetted 32-bit order only, error messages might appear and you will not be able to perform end-user tasks (such as installation) or adminstrative tasks (such as creating a depot).

Under Windows x64 operating systems, this error message might appear:

You've attempted to install software intended for one operating system on a machine using a different operating system. You should either install on a machine using the operating system you downloaded for or return to the download site and download the appropriate software for your operating system.

This error message then appears in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\setup_.log:

INFO: MessageDisplay=You've attempted to install software intended for one operating system on a machine using a different operating system. You should either install on a machine using the operating system you downloaded for or return to the download site and download the appropriate software for your operating system. Wed Aug 31 12:56:37 2011 INFO: CStartupApp::InitInstance=-200 Wed Aug 31 12:56:37 2011 INFO: CStartupApp::ExitInstance=-200

Under Linux x64 operating systems, no message appears, but after beginning installation:

./setup.sh Preparing the SAS Deployment Wizard... ./setup.sh: line

This information apppears:

291: /mnt/hgfs/sas_software_depots_99cns9_eva_goldh20_subsetted_linux_32only//jre_LAX_600_21.tgz: No such file or directory ./setup.sh: line 410: /mnt/hgfs/sas_software_depots_99cns9_eva_goldh20_subsetted_linux_32only//jre_LAX_600_21.tgz: No such file or directory Launching the SAS Deployment Wizard...

and then you are returned to the command prompt.

These error messages and behaviors appear because some x64 components have not been placed in the depot there during the subsetting process.

To circumvent this issue, you must include both 32-bit and x64 components in the subsetted order in the depot.

Under Windows, you must first create the depot for the subsetted order by selecting both 32-bit and x64 Windows buttons in the Subset by Platform panel (below). This step ensures that the needed x64 components exist in the depot and can be installed on the Windows x64 machine along with the SAS 9.3 32-bit installation.

This issue is fixed in SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) rev 12w45.
